60 Minutes conducted an independent investigation of the Chinese laminate distributed across the U.S. Their team collected 31 laminate samples, 30 of which contained formaldehyde levels over the legal emission limit, one of the samples exceeding 13 times the limit. The investigators went undercover and posed as customers at the manufacturing plant in China. Several of the plant’s managers admitted that Lumber Liquidators falsified their labels as meeting the legal limit. This falsification may have saved Lumber Liquidators 10-15% on costs, but it did so at the expense of hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent Americans injured by exposure to the toxic levels of formaldehyde.
