Last October, the Fitch Law Firm welcomed Rea Singh as our first-ever high school intern, and this summer, we’ll be saying our goodbyes as she embarks on an exciting new journey as an undergraduate at American University.
We do not doubt that as she transitions from the heart of Ohio to the capital of the nation, Rea will continue being a brilliant and hard-working young woman.
As the youngest member of our team, Rea graduated from Olentangy High School with honors in the spring of this year. This fall, she’ll be taking her first steps on a Pre-Law track with a combined degree in Communications, Law, Economics, and Government as well as a minor in business.
Though we’ll be sad to see her go, The Fitch Law Firm has been grateful to have her as a valued member of the team, and we could not be more excited to see where her ambitions take her.
“Interning at the Fitch Law Firm has been a blessing.” – Rea Singh
Olentangy is one of several high schools in the district that offers a class called Mentorship, a course whose requirements include a 50-hour unpaid internship each semester.
This can often be a boon for students, who can use this requirement as a way to nurture their interest in prospective careers while learning soft skills that are necessary for their success in the job market. For Rea, this was a perfect opportunity to begin edging her way into a field that she had always been interested in: the world of law.
In the first semester of her senior year, Rea began researching local firms and was first drawn to Fitch Law after seeing clients’ positive experiences with the firm.
She took the initiative of cold calling the firm, eventually landing herself an interview with our head attorney and going on to join the team in October of 2024. Since then, Rea has fulfilled her internship requirement through her role as an administrative assistant.
As she began her foray into the legal world, Rea’s duties asked her to become familiar with a broad scope of responsibilities that would help ensure the Firm’s smooth running. She rose to the occasion and aided the firm through the accomplishment of an array of tasks, which could include clerical work, research, communications, and other administrative components.
“Interning at the Fitch Law Firm has been a blessing,” says Rea, who explains that just being able to carry out her day-to-day tasks and responsibilities has allowed her to gain valuable insights into what it’s like to practice law as a victim’s rights attorney.
The knowledge that Rea has gained during her internship is two-fold: not only has she had the opportunity to see what practicing civil law entails, but she has also been able to learn more about law school, an educational path that she herself hopes to take one day.
Watching her co-workers apply to and enter law school has allowed her to better understand the application process. Still, she’s also been able to gain more information on what to expect in law school from those who are currently attending.
For Rea, one of the most significant resources that the firm has provided her is its people. “I really loved the work environment,” says Rea. “Everyone was and is very kind and understanding while also being smart and efficient. Observing them has been inspiring and informative, so I am very grateful to them.”
“I’ve always been attracted to the law.” – Rea Singh
Rea has always felt an attraction to the field of law, but what cemented her desire to become a lawyer was an episode of Girl Meets World, a popular Disney show that served as a spin-off of the beloved 90s show, Boy Meets World.
Topanga, one of the series’ main characters, worked as an attorney to save a nunnery from being bought out by a major corporation. Although her inspiration may have been fictional, Rea’s takeaways were grounded in real-world significance.
What Topanga had done for the nuns taught Rea that good legal representation is a layer that the average person does not have but may need. She knew, then, that she would want to fulfill that role someday.
Although Rea knows that she would eventually like to earn her Doctor of Jurisprudence and work as a lawyer, law school still feels like a far-off prospect for her. With four years of undergrad ahead of her, she aims to spend her educational career expanding her knowledge of the types of law she can practice and understanding what each field entails.
Rea has truly established herself as a hardworking and invaluable member of the Fitch team, and we do not doubt that she will continue to accomplish remarkable things.
We wish Rea the best of luck in this upcoming school year, and we hope that her time at The Fitch Law Firm will continue to serve her well!
