About the Sexual Abuse Survivor Scholarship
The Fitch Law Firm LLC’s Sexual Abuse Survivor Scholarship aims to celebrate the bravery of sexual abuse survivors and further their academic goals, as well as their goals to help other survivors. Coming forward with their stories and holding their abusers accountable is never easy for survivors of sexual abuse. They may face ostracization from their peers, as well as a harrowing experience reliving their trauma.
Our firm advocates for survivors of sexual abuse, and we want to encourage more survivors to share their stories so others can be inspired to begin the journey of healing. We want to educate the public about the laws on sexual abuse and work to change the culture that makes it so difficult for survivors to come forward and seek justice.
Scholarship Requirements
The Sexual Abuse Survivor Scholarship is open to current college students 18 years of age who are in good academic standing. It requires them to compose a 500-word essay describing how they overcame the trauma of their sexual abuse and how their education will further their personal and career goals.
Each year, The Fitch Law Firm LLC chooses a winner who receives a $2,500 scholarship.

Maria Wrona attended Meridian High School, where she earned a 4.4 cumulative GPA upon graduating. Unfortunately, during her junior year, the coach of the school’s Varsity Boys’ Tennis Team sexually abused her for three months. When she bravely came forward about her abuse, the local news picked up on her story, and her peers ostracized her, leading her to experience a profound depression. She sought the help she needed from a therapist and began the journey of overcoming her trauma.
Now, she hopes her story inspires other sexual abuse survivors to speak up and take action to hold their abusers accountable. She also spreads an important message about the ability to heal from such trauma.
Maria’s Major and College Involvement
As a college student at the University of Virginia, Maria is an active member of several student organizations, including the Pre-Law Organization, the Polish student club, and the university’s judicial system. She also enjoys babysitting for her family and friends when on break, and she is currently looking for legal-related internships during the summer.
Along with majoring in International Relations, she is minoring in Spanish and is also fluent in Polish and English. She believes her devotion to language acquisition will help broaden her reach as a lawyer down the line and help more survivors of sexual abuse. She has also enjoyed taking a variety of classes that broaden her educational journey, including astromony, Mass Media, and American Politics.
Maria’s Plans After College
Upon graduating, she plans to attend a prestigious law school and study criminal law. She hopes to one day work as a prosecutor so she can hold perpetrators accountable for sexual misconduct. Her personal experience is fueling her passion for helping sexual abuse survivors access the legal care they deserve.
Maria’s Personal Inspiration
When we asked Maria who her biggest inspiration was, she didn’t hesitate to name her father. As an immigrant from Poland, he poured himself into his work and kept his focus on supporting his family at all costs.
Maria remembers the late nights he would come home from the office and the tireless dedication he gave to securing Green Card Status for his family. He always supported his children’s education, and now, Maria hopes to make him as proud as he has made her.
